Basic Clutch Kit Information
People ask me everyday if they need a clutch kit because they changed tires etc. The answer is not black and white.
Almost everyone benefits from a properly calibrated clutch, about the only person who does need one is a guy who simply eases around 20-30 mph like he is on a Sunday afternoon cruise. There are a few people who do this and no matter what tires etc they do, I can't see them needing to do anything.
Everyone else no matter what will benefit but you need to realize that there is no one clutch set up that does everything, so you can't rock crawl and dune with the same clutch set up, it simply does not work like that. You also need to know that depending on what you are doing your butt dyno may not notice the change. A slow rider that has set his clutch up for that can't feel it, he just is not slipping his belt. The performance oriented driver knows it for sure.
Clutch tuning for performance is important to faster moving people who mash the go pedal to the floor because you need the clutch to get in the right RPM range to propel you as quick as you can. Slow riders like a rock crawler or technical riders simply should not be concerned about what shift RPM is and say if it was 8400 rpm why are you concerned about that? You are never there and you are using low range anyway.
With all this being said the point I am trying to make is, depending on what you are doing as to how you set your clutch up and you need to know that what you set it up for is what it will do best and it will suffer at other activities. There is no such thing as a clutch set up or calibration that works everywhere well, all will do one thing better than another.
