Large HD Roller Article

The 2016-19 RZR line, all of them, all models have the new BOSS secondary clutch on them and they all have square pucks on the outside of the clutch instead of round rollers. The Polaris General 16/19 models, 17 Ranger 1000 have these as well.  I suppose they were trying to fix the issue of the round ones flat spotting like the previous year models did and their thinking was, if they are going to flat spot lets make them them flat. No idea why they didn't just change the material to something that we make our HD rollers out of for the 14-15 models but they didn't.

Well they fixed the flat spotting problem but they made a worse problem in my opinion, the new square puck is wearing the secondary clutches out and doing it pretty fast. The reason is the large contact patch the square roller has that is sliding back and forth on the aluminum along with dirt getting under it is acting like sandpaper and wearing the aluminum out.

Our solution? We are using the same super successful material we have been making the smaller secondary rollers out of and making them larger to match the size of the square puck and replacing them.  Now the roller will roll on the clutch not slide. Pretty simply really but the trick is the material we are using and as mentioned it has been very successful in the 14-15 models and as of today's date around 2000 of them sold and in use with reports of 1000s of miles on them.

Short article but you should get the jest of it. See the picture and short video below to see the wear we are talking about. The wet stuff in the video is WD-40, this is a customers clutch and he said it was stuck. FYI, never use any oil based lubricant on a clutch.  He didn't run it like this was just trying to unstick it.

Hunterworks recommends you install only 2 of the 4 rollers on outside of clutch and hold on to the other two for future use in your clutch or a new one later. The inside rollers don't seem to have many issues only the outside and our rollers may not last on the inside. Most peoples clutches by the time they replace thier square pucks with our rollers they have already done damage to the aluminum the pucks run on, so that will shorten the life span of even our high quality rollers.  So we suggest smoothing that surface up before installing our rollers, then use your extra two in that clutch if it harms our rollers or if you have to buy a new secondary you have have two new rollers to install in your new clutch day one and this will no longer be an issue. Can't beat our rollers on the outside of a new clutch!!!
